Australian Standard AS/NZS 2172 for Wooden Cots

The Australian Standard for Wooden Cots is updated regularly with new inclusions and requirements.  As part of the current Australian Standard for Cots for Household Use, the following are just some of the requirements to be met:

  • Establish a minimum distance between the top of the mattress and the top of the lowest side of the cot to minimize the risk of a child climbing or falling out of the cot
  • Quality of timber; shall not contain splinters and loose knots, be free from decay and insect attack, and be free of chemical additions
  • Protrusions shall not be more than 5mm to ensure they do not snag on clothing
  • Decorative transfers shall not be applied within the cot
  • Entrapment hazard test
  • Impact, durability and stability tests
  • Strength test
  • Each cot shall include informative labelling for cot assembly and maintenence
